Reading Trapped Sellers Live: Three NQ Examples From This Week

The Trapped Sellers signal fires on the same math every time: close in the top 35% of the bar range, bid volume present in the lower zone, positive bar delta. What changes is what happens next — and that comes down to where the bar prints, not how it prints.

Example one: at the open

A Trapped Sellers bar in the first 15 minutes of the session is competing with initial balance formation. Liquidity is thin and the signal can fire on volume that looks large in isolation but is small relative to what the rest of the day will trade. Treat early prints as a lean, not a trigger — wait for a second confirming bar before sizing up.

Example two: mid-session, into the value area

The same signal printing as price re-enters yesterday's value area carries more weight. Sellers defending a level that the market has already agreed is fair value are more likely to be genuinely trapped than sellers acting on thin overnight liquidity.

Example three: into the close

Late-session Trapped Sellers signals often coincide with short covering ahead of the bell rather than a real shift in positioning. The follow-through is real but shorter — plan the target accordingly rather than expecting a multi-bar continuation.

The takeaway

The signal tells you what happened inside the bar. It does not tell you what the rest of the session looks like. Read it alongside where price sits relative to the session profile before deciding how much conviction to give it.
